During the Summer of 2008 the Center for Earth System Education (CESE) "Weather & Climate Portal" was launched through the Department of Geology & Meteorology website of the College of Natural, Applied, and Health Sciences at Kean University http://hurri.kean.edu/kuweather/index.html .

The work has been supported by the Foundation through its Faculty Research Award program; and by the Faculty Research Initiative at Kean University. The site is presently available for beta-use and testing and will continue to be developed and revised during the upcoming academic year.

Designers Dr. Paul J. Croft and student meteorology major Darren Milliron have prepared the site to be compatible for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert level users. The site features several tabs that provides current weather conditions on Kean University campus (including the KU-webcam) and forecast information; as well as a new alert system for hazardous situations; and access to archived weather data.

Linked within the "Weather & Climate Portal" is Keancast which provides the latest forecast, on-air broadcast, map discusions, weather blogs, and seven day forecasts as prepared by the undergraduate majors. Additional information and items include: climate data, records, and averages; real-time maps and analyses of weather data, products, and models; safety and educational information and materials; and a new alert system.

The new "Alert System" will provide users access to weather and environmental hazards in real-time, from severe weather to coronal mass ejections to earthquakes and other phenomena. This will also be supported through tabs for both "Educational" and "Research" information as related to learning about the weather, raising awareness, and various projects completed by students with staff and faculty.

We look forward to seeing you as a visitor and user of this important new resource!
